#StopUgandaAnti-LGBTQIALaw #LGBTQIARights=HumanRights

The Uganda parliament has recently voted a bill against the LGBTQIA community that provides:

  • Up to 20 years in prison for promoting homosexuality.
  • Life imprisonment for the offense of homosexuality.
  • Up to 10 years of imprisonment for those who perform same-sex marriages.
  • 6 months of imprisonment for those who would facilitate the offense of homosexuality.
  • Up to 10 years of imprisonment for anyone who fails to report to the police someone they suspect of participating in homosexual acts.
  • The imposition of the death penalty for same-sex intimacy-including so-called “serial homosexuality.”

That bill is a breach of Articles 3 and 7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of December 10, 1948 (UN Res/AG 217 A).

That bill is a breach of Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

That bill puts the LGBTQIA community in Uganda living in fear and stress. That bill affects not only their physical integrity but, there are also serious mental health-associated risks beyond the violence and threats.

GJIE stands up against that Uganda’s Anti-LGBTQIA and fights for everyone’s right to love and live in peace, safety, and freedom within his or her community.

GJIE firmly condemns Uganda’s anti-LGBTQIA bill, which is a violation of human rights, and urges the President of Uganda not to promulgate that proposed legislation.
